Finding the Perfect Pet Can Be Easy, But There’s Lots to Consider!
Every animal is different, just like every adopter. Some of our dogs love kids, while some don’t. Some get along with other animals, and some don’t. Make sure to read through each dog’s bio before applying, to ensure the adoption is the right fit for both you and the dog!
Also, please note: All applications for a dog are considered, it is not on a first-come first-serve basis. While you may be a fantastic applicant, it still could not be the best fit for the dog. This doesn’t reflect on you as an owner, and if you’re open to it, we’re happy to work with you to find the right pet!
Frequently Asked Adoption Questions
How Long Does the Process Take?
The adoption process varies per dog, depending on their needs. After applying, you should expect to hear back regarding your application within 48 hours. After an approved app, we require a home check and a meet-and-greet with the dog before finalizing the adoption.
How Much Does Adopting Cost?
Our adoption fee is based on the age of the dog.
- Puppies up to 5 months are $250
- Dogs 6 months to 9 years are $200
- Seniors 10 years and older and special needs dogs are $150.
Adoption fees include all current vaccinations, altering, and microchipping.
What Is the Difference Between Adopting and Fostering?
Fostering means you are taking a dog into your home – but only temporarily. You’re giving the dog a place to stay until they find their forever home. When fostering, we cover all expenses, including food and medical. Adoption, on the other hand, is permanent, you’re taking on the full responsibility of that animal. Learn more about fostering on our Volunteer page.
Will I need Additional Veterinarian Services?
All adoptions from New Start K9 include current vaccinations, spay/neuter, vetting, and a microchip. Your dog shouldn’t need any additional veterinarian care right away, but it’s a good idea to establish a primary provider for regular check-ups.
Can I take A Pet Home Directly From the Shelter?
In short, no. Our adoption process is designed to ensure all animals are going into the best homes. We want the fit to be right for both the dog and the new family! For this reason, we require an application, home check, and a meet-and-greet before a dog can be taken home.
How Old Must I be to Apply?
Applicants must be 21 years of age or older to be approved for adoption.
